The history of the Tibetan necklace
The Tibetan necklace is an ancient piece of jewelry that dates back over 3000 years. Just like the Tibetan bowl, the exact date of its creation is unknown.
However, we do know that this piece of jewelry was created by Tibetan monks to count the recitations of Mantras.
Indeed, it contains 108 beads that correspond to the 100 recitations, with 8 additional beads in case of mistakes or omissions.
When the monk completes a full rotation of the necklace (moving to the next bead with each recitation), the prayer session is finished.
Today, this jewelry carries a strong spiritual connotation and is associated with Buddhism. It is also used for meditation or yoga to calm the mind and prepare the body for relaxation.
